Protecting student data is core to how Yard operates. This is a representative summary of our commitments for this rebuild.

Our commitments

  • We never sell student data. Schools are our business model, not students.
  • We collect only the data needed to deliver the app and route support.
  • We use encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate.
  • We limit access to data to those who need it, and your district controls permissions.

FERPA & COPPA alignment

Yard is built for minors, with privacy and consent flows aligned to FERPA and COPPA. Mandatory-reporting and crisis paths are configured to your state and district rules.

Sensitive support stays private

When a student is connected to mental-health or community support, we track that a referral happened — not what was said. We don't store clinical notes, and sensitive support details are kept private from general admin views.

Retention & deletion

We follow clear data retention and deletion policies, with student-privacy boundaries by age and service, and we support districts in meeting their own data obligations.
